TRUNK SHOW PRESENTED BY RANDY MCCARTY, JUNE 2016
We had the privilege of having Randy McCarty present our June program. Randy began his trunk show by briefly describing his quilt journey which started as a young boy under a quilt frame. Loving all things creative, he paid particular attention to the quilting precision and designs as the Quilting Bee stitched their craft. Therefore, Randy's journey began with the quilting stitch, not the piecing. His story of learning to piece a quilt top with Eleanor Burns' tutorials was quite humorous. Most all of his early quilts were all hand quilted, then he progressed to sending them to a long-arm quilter, Fast forward to 5 years ago, Randy invested in his own long-arm machine and gave himself 12 years to perfect this craft. As good friend Pat Burnett tells the story, those 12 years flew by in less than one year! We sat in awe and admiration as each quilt was unfolded and displayed -- each more beautiful than the last. Randy's journey has taken him into the national spotlight as a quilt designer and wool pattern proof reader. You may find three patterns of Randy's in Fons and Porter's magazines. The editions are annotated on the specific quilt in the gallery.
